Its main function is to give air but it is also a very elegant female wardrobe accessory and can even be a wonderful decoration object. Do you know the different uses that a fan can have? Do you know what a fan is made of and what are its parts?

In our country the most common fan is the folding fan. Within the folding fans we find two types: semicircular and round. In this post we will focus on the semicircularis that are the best known and manufactured in our area.

Our traditional semicircular fan is made up of a set of equal flat rods, made of wood, ivory or synthetic material, which are held at their base by means of a nail or small ring. The rods are joined at the other end by a wide band of cloth or paper that in most cases presents decoration.

What are the parts of a fan and components of the fan?

Deck: folding fan structure
Country: fabric of the fan that is attached to the deck. Fans that do not have a country are called “de baraja” or “decks” simply.
Rods: are the strips of wood that can be painted or pierced. (The set of rods is called “linkage”).
Source: First section of the rod
Guide: Second section of the rod, on which the “country” is attached.
Guard or head: first and last rod, thicker than the others.
Draft: holes in the rods that serve both as decoration and to increase their aerodynamics.

Types of fans

Depending on their use, we can differentiate the fans into the different categories:

Flamenco Fan : It is the fan used in dance, more specifically in flamenco dance. Its size is usually large (about 31.5) to give showiness to the dance, although the somewhat more manageable half pericones (27 cm) are also available that are ideal for both beginners and children. It stands out for its simplicity, since for this function they are not usually painted, in any case some lace ornament or some carved in the wood. It is one of the accessories for flamenco dancing that gives more play.

Fan as an accessory: Its most common use is the one that gave rise to it, to cool off in hot weather or indoors. But it is also an elegant accessory for party or fair outfits. How did the well-known “fan language” come about?

In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, it was very common for young women to go to social events accompanied by their mothers or a relative and could not communicate freely with the men present. That is why they devised a secret language in which they transmitted short messages depending on how or in what position the fan was placed. In this way, with a code that was known, they could record their preferences or intentions without being discovered.

The range outside of Europe

The main antecedents of the fan are, as we have already mentioned previously, the Egyptian parasol or flabello. There is evidence of their use since the 19th dynasty and already in Tutankhamun’s tomb they were listed as part of the trousseau. From the 5th century BC, the Egyptian flabel appears in Ancient Greece and later in Ancient Rome.

Fans are also essential objects in Chinese and Japanese cultures, being fundamental in some ceremonies and theatrical shows. In Japan the fan was more linked to the everyday and some were closely related to the tea ceremony.

Symbolism and language of the fan

Although in principle they were objects used by both sexes, they eventually ended up being exclusive to ladies, becoming an indispensable fashion accessory in the upper classes. In fact, a language of its own was created according to the position or the way in which it was used.

In Eastern culture it symbolizes the air and within Taoism it is related to the idea of liberation.

So Halloween is near and your son wants to dress up as a Fortnite character. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any idea about what he was talking about. So I had to check it out myself.

I must admit that the game has got super fun graphics and colors. The first thing that popped in my mind head was it’s going to be exciting to make a Fortnite-themed Halloween costume.

After checking out the game, I realized that some skins are easier to make than others. Good thing my son wanted to be one of the easier characters. This means less trouble for me.

The character he wanted to dress up as is Dire, a werewolf-like character on Fortnite. If you are looking for tips to make a Halloween costume for your little one, you are in luck. Today, I am going to share the DIY steps to create a Fortnite Halloween costume, right from start till the end.

It turns out that there are also many in-game costumes called “skins” available to purchase with their own in-game currency called “V-Bucks“, it’s really fun to create a custome like that. For now, I am going to teach you just one costume. So without wasting time, let me walk you through the steps.

How to make Fortnite Level 3 Dire Costume?

So here we are with Fortnite level 3 dire costume. I am going to share with you guys the DIY steps to create a fun costume for your kid this Halloween. If your little one is a fan of Fortnite, this would surely make them happy.

Before I start, I would suggest you take a good look at the character first. You can check out a full-length picture of the character online. This will give you an idea of what you are going to create.

To make things easier, I like to break them down. What I mean is I make one piece at a time and then put them all together in the end. Some of the parts were easy and it didn’t take much time to make them.

To get started, you need a pair of jeans, a black jacket, and a flannel shirt. Once you have the required items, all you have to do is just deconstruct them to create the ripped up look of Dire.

At first, I cut the jeans shorter and ripped them to give them a rough look. Then I ripped the sleeves of the jacket and cut the hem of the flannel shirt.

I bought a gray base layer from Target. But you can also get it from any other store. However, the warmer was too good to be cut.

I went to Hobby Lobby to get half a yard of fur. Luckily, I had a coupon code, so got a discount. You guys already know how expensive fur is. The fur is needed so that you can create patches behind the holes in the jeans. I also made cap sleeves out of it for the black vest to give it furry shoulders.

Now coming to the hat, it was my favorite part to make. A few years back, I was asked to make several animal hats for a Narnia production at our home school co-op. I used the same hat-making technique back then to create all the different animal hats. I used various furs and fleeces to make cute hats. I just added different ears based on the animal I was making. Besides, that I also added the appropriate animal characteristics. Once again, I followed the same technique to make the Dire hat.

The pattern is called Simplicity 8273, View C. I followed it to make Dire’s hat. I used fur to make wolf ears at the top of the seam. It turned out just as I expected and looked great.

I also created a Mr. Tumnus hat following the same pattern. You can see it in the picture below. It was also used to make horses, unicorns, wolves, beavers, and even a bearded man. I may have made many other animals following the same pattern. But right now, I can’t remember it.

If you follow this pattern correctly, you can make ears quite easily. It can be transformed into all types of things that you want.

The pattern is drafted with a cross of seams in the top. This makes it easier for you to add ears and even a mane. It doesn’t change the way you would construct the hat. All you have to do is just baste your animal parts in before you close the seams.

For the furry hats, I left out the lining. However, for the fleece hats, I included the lining as well.

This year, Kelby has toyed with being Drift which I believe is easy to make. However, the Guaco skin may look easy, but maybe a bit difficult to create. That’s because of the taco face. But with a little extra effort, we can surely do it.

For me, I just love making different costumes. It’s better to spend your time creating cute things than to get bored. You can also check out Amazon as they have a great collection of Fortnite costumes. In case, you are not sure of making a costume for your kid, you can always order it online. There’s no guilt involved.

Tips For Making Costumes

Here are some costume making tips that I would like to share with you guys:

Always check out the character thoroughly. Don’t forget to note even the minute details. Those are important.
Before you start, get all your supplies. You wouldn’t break your flow because you forgot to buy an item or clothing piece you needed.
Whether you are making costumes for the first time or the tenth time, always create one piece at a time.
You should never rush the process. Take your time to create the best costume you can.

There is a new trend in the home improvement industry and it is none other than the DIY hot pads. Many people are starting to use them because they are so easy to build, not requiring any special tools or supplies. The hot pad is also known as a bio-breathing apparatus and the idea is that you can get all the oxygen you need for your brain to function at an optimal level. There are many ideas for making your own but here at Everything Golden we are going to focus on a very simple one that can be done with just a few materials and some hot pad paper.

The idea is to get tutorial videos on how to do this and how to find the best products to make your own DIY hot pads. I decided that the best way to learn how to do this was to go on the Internet and look for no-sew-fried egg oven mitts. I knew that these were made of quality materials and I wanted to be sure that I was getting my money’s worth. My online research turned up several places that selling these types of products so I set out to find the ones that I would be interested in buying. I ended up purchasing four of them.

After I had purchased my no-sew fried egg oven mitts, I set out to do some more research on how to get tutorial videos on how to do the same thing. There are several sites on the Internet that sell DIY instructional guides, but they don’t give very good information. I decided to give one of the videos that I found a try because the price was reasonable and I figured that it wouldn’t hurt to give it a shot. I ended up finding some really great ideas on how to use my new DIY hot pads. I was amazed at all the things that I could do once I started using the pads.
