The Hidden Life of Wolves

Jim and Jaime Dutcher of Living with Wolves recently came out with a new book called The Hidden Life of Wolves, documenting their rare intimate knowledge of wolves. In this great recent interview they talk about their book, answer questions from the public and put to rest misguided information as well as shed light on the current political climate surrounding wolves.

In the interview Jim and Jaime talk about the delisting of wolves from the endangered species act. They have been delisted in MT, WY, ID, MN and WI and the result has been the loss of 1,200 innocent wolves including wolf pups. Ken Salazar, the secretary of the interior is thankfully leaving office by the end of this month. However, before he leaves, he plans to delist wolves in the remaining 45 states. There are three wolf defenders in the US congress: Rep. Peter DeFazio of Oregon, US Rep. Ed Markey of Massachusetts and US Rep. Raul Grijalva of Arizona. These three have been circulating a letter to their colleagues in the US Congress, expressing support for America’s wolves still under federal protections, and which urges that those federal protections remain in place. This letter of support for America’s wolves will be forwarded to the US Fish & Wildlife Service. You can call your member of Congress RIGHT NOW at (202) 224-3121. Urge him or her to oppose the removal of Endangered Species Act protections for wolves that remain in 45 of the 50 US  states. Urge them to sign on to the wolf defender letter of US Reps. DeFazio, Markey and Grijalva, that will be forwarded to the US Fish & Wildlife Service. You can also use this form to send a letter to your US representative. It’s like Jaime said, “We need to be vocal, be loud and be angry.”
